I took a gamble on 1/500 because of the direction of movement, the fact it was very misty I probably wan't going to get ultimate detail in any event and not least because I am not a fan of high ISO files on the 5D IV.
I tried to convey the situation as opposed to portrait if you get my drift. I quite liked it especially with the cobwebs an' all

I like the pose here and the misty mood. Taken during the rut?
    Nice earthy tones.

Jonathan I simply love this image. Great pose and movement. Lovely misty BG providing sharp contrast to iin focus and colorful foreground. Have you tried B&W? I think that too might work well.

Love the cold atmosphere here Jon, colours look reflective and the Stags appearing out of the mist, position/pose is spot on, just would like a tad more at the foot. Sadly, for once, the IQ isn't there on this one Jon.

Hi Jon ....a lovely moody shot . The setting is very nice and the calling pose is great , the relatively low POV works very well i think .
Well done . Wonder about the noise/ grain in the subject at Iso 4000 with the MK IV . But could be the result of the mist/fog or better said low contrast scene . I do have the same issue with the 1Dx and 1DxII... when shooting low contrast scenes , the noise is stronger compared to high contrast scenes in the same Iso range .
Not sure about the color balance ...here and image can stand a lift in the lights .... i think .

RP for illustrating my points ....hope you do not mind.
Nevertheless a lovely shot i would like to have in my pocket .

    Thanks everyone,
Morkel - yes taken during the rut
Jay hadn't thought of it but I will have a look, in view of the mist it may/may not be a good idea??
Steve yes I hear you, I couldn't think of much alternative.
Andreas, I like the repost, I do not mind at all in fact I appreciate it, you are quite right the mist seems to accentuate the noise a heck of a lot, once I got to the point of eliminating the noise I pretty much lost all detail in the coat so I left some in. I think you have done a good job there, you will have to come over to Manchester this site is only a few kilometres away.

Hi Jon - Another moody scene. Great calling pose and the fog adds to the atmosphere. I like what Andreas has done and will be interested to see what he does with the RAW file. Agree about the detail, room below and noise. I'm not sure there's enough tonal variation for it to work well as a b&w. Looks like a lot of midtones.

    TFS,
    Rachel
