Captured on a foggy morning in a small fishing harbor in Lima, Peru, three years ago. A handsome gull that is restricted to the area of the South American coast that is washed by the Humboldt Current, rich in fish life. Previously called the Band-tailed Gull. It was very dark and foggy that morning. I don't remember what I did to this in PP, but probably applied some contrast. I don't recall applying NR to the bird, but it does have a bit of smooth look to it, so it's possible. High ISO and relatively low SS didn't help the IQ.
It is a good looking species. I like the detail in the blacks, not so much the HA. I also like the "shades of gray" feeling to the overall image. As you noted, it looks soft overall and I miss the eye. TFS
Under the foggy conditions you produced a good image of this unique looking gull. I like the downstroke also and the feet neatly tucked under the tail. Great self critique.
This is a really neat species and while I like the near-wing position this one overall does not work for me as it is way too flat and mostly detail-less to my eye.

Thanks Bill. This might help when working in the fog: expose all the way to the right blinking the sky (but not the bird ...)
