Last weekend, the Emirates Natural History Group did a hike on Jebel Qatar, a massif just over the border in Oman. The plateau was occupied at one time as we can find evidence of dwellings and some potsherds. Now it is mostly inhabited by visiting expats from Dubai who use one of the guidebooks to find a nasty goat path. When it rains, there is a spectacular waterfall at what we call the Hanging Gardens for the plants that grow on the cliff in an area perpetually shaded from the sun.
There were a pair of Egyptian vultures cruising about as well as an Imperial Eagle. This vulture was flying below the top of the massif. With the cliff mainly in the shade and the vulture in the sun, it stands out a bit better than in some of the other images.
