EOS R EF100-400 1.4xtcII at 210mm 1/100 F5.0 ISO 20000 One Shot AF
As it was my first time out with the EOS R I tried a couple high ISO shots before sunrise. This beauty was just waking in the roost. It was still dark with that pre-sunrise glow on the horizon. I cranked up the ISO to 20000 (never would have dreamed of that 10 years ago). There is no noise reduction applied in PS, just minimal settings suggested by Artie and Arash in their guide on DPP. This was just to see what high ISO looks like in current system and am sure from what I've read most of current DSLRs do better. I used to go as high as 1600 with my 1dmkIIN. I think that number will be going up considerably. Maybe somewhere in 3200 range?
The bird really pops against that green, and the foliage is quite interesting in its own right. The noise is an issue, as you mention. I've never thought about
processing images with this sort of high ISO noise as I don't bother shooting when so little light is available.
The image looks fine to me. I like it. I am not seeing much if any noise at all. If you want sharp images, **** the ISO, keep shooting, and worry about the noise later.
with love, artie
