    Default Great Gray Owl

I had a free weekend after 3 brutal university exams this week, so I took advantage of it. This is now my favorite species on my Idaho list, and I plan on spending much more time at this location. This is not my ideal shot, but it's a species I'm always happy to spend time with.

    Tech:
    Nikon D750
    600mm f4 AF-S i
    tripod mounted
    ISO 6400
    SS 1/200
    f4

(there is significant posterization and detail lost in the face which is not present in the full size, I had to reduce quality to 65 to post this image)

I agree, a great bird. For whatever reason, the bird looks quite unhappy -- perhaps it is the somewhat somber light. If it were mine, I would crop down half the length of the split branch end with the moss at the top of the frame and then eliminate the ha;f that was left.

    with love, artie

What a great bird, nicely captured. Like the perch but I'd get rid of the orphaned bit of moss at the top.

    Great bird.
I love that look they give as though chastising you for something!
I agree with Bill about the moss at the top.
    I like the visible foot.

Remarkable looking owl, under great light. Neat perch and agree with removing the moss at top.

Nice to see a great gray. The composition looks quite nice and so do the details here.
