    D300 5fps 14bit shooting!

    Hi all,

I had to do some testing this morning on my D300....and while photographing a clock I noticed that I was able to photograph at 5fps in 14bit-RAW mode...while the manual clearly states that in 14-bit it will only shoot at 2.5fps.It does sound like 5fps as well....my first D-SLR, Canon's 10D did 3fps and sounds a lot slower than my D300. What's your experience in this?

No clue how that could be Jasper? With the D3 battery it only fires at 2.5 Does sound painfully slow? Did you triple checked it was in 14 bit mode!!!

first time I have heard of that one Jasper.

Supposedly, I have never actually tried it, the D300 will actually do 10 fps (not in 14 bit of course) Manual mode, MF, bracketing function to 9 frames. Will run the 9 images in less than a sec.

You can get 10 FPS +/- in live view with frame rate set to high when using EN-EL4 or AA's in 12bit.

The best I could do in 14bit was 3 FPS the average was closer to 2.5 FPS.

    Thanks James

I was shooting 14bit, lossless compressed NEF in continuous AF (locking the AF with my thumb), using the EN-EL3 in the vertical grip.

    I think you had an overclocked...clock :)

I've shot with a bunch of different D300's and have seen nothing exceeding S L O W in 14 bit mode, no matter what the setting.

AND...it especially makes no sense given the battery that you were using.
