    Default non breeding avocet

We were out shooting ducks and there was a small group of avocets that would often do fly-bys... This fellow was the only one that was chasing other avocets and so I kept watch on him and was able to get this banking shot... I cropped this one from landscape. Just above the bill are wet feathers and gives the "dented" appearance. Just a wee bit of color on the high neck area, this was taken in January, S California, along with Dave Salem and Gail B. Fun!

I like everything about this one Ann. Pretty pose, wing position, background and details. I even like the company your were with!!! I would add a touch more sharpening to the head.

Nice flight frame. The details look good and the pose on the bird is nice as well.

That was a fun morning Ann and you sure nailed some nice frames, this being one of them. Cool banking pose and the details and exposure look great too, especially on the RP. Well done Ann

Good looking frame with great detail in both whites and blacks. Wing pose is interesting and acrobatic. Nicely done!

Excellent image Ann! I like the banking pose, exposure, composition and water drops of the feet. Repost looks even better.

Great banking pose. Nicely exposed. The mottled water seems just slightly distracting; I wonder what a slight blur would do for it? I know Dave Salem; who is Gail B. Fun?

Hi Bill, Gail B is Gail Bisson! Gail and I went to S CA and took Dave Salem's workshop last January. We had a blast, and tons of raptors to shoot. Dave does a very nice job with getting you on the bird, and always helpful. In the evening we would have processing sessions. I wish I wasnt 3000 miles away.

I think Bill is pulling you leg!!
I love the bird, the wing position and the perfect exposure.
I am not so crazy about the water in the BG. Ripples in the water are not my favorite. I wonder if you did some gaussian blur and reduced the contrast in the water would help-worth a try!

A not too often seen pose, but works brilliantly here. A species I'd really love to get next time I'm on your side of the pond
