P.S. I tried different compositions, moving the bird front and back in the frame settling on this placement. WDYT?

The framing and the inclusion of the reflection is perfect. I wish that the whole bird were angled a degree or two more toward us, or that you had moved a yard to your right. Or maybe just a bit more depth of filed as it looks as if the side of the bird is in sharper focus than the face. Where was the active AF point? Another good job with the decisive moment.

Hi Artie, thank you for viewing and commenting. Here is a screen capture of the active focus point at the time of capture. Looking again at the image I think the reason the body appears sharper than the face is that the face is shadowed with the light coming from the left.

Terrific capture, Joe. Light is good; I don't mind that it is slightly from the left. Low POV very nice, comp looks good to me. Moment of capture is excellent. Well done.
Here is a repost where I opened the shadow on the front part of the bird and worm, also added 10 points of more sharpening in that area.
Good job with the repost.

Very nice Joe.
Love the blue sand!
I would love to see this with a bit cropped off the bottom and off RHS.
The bird's bill seems less sharp in your repost- not sure why because you said you said you increased sharpening.
