Default okay fish, line up and smile

After posting a head-on skimmer, I thought of some puffins and decided to process this one. While sitting on the cliffside I was pleased to see this guy just below me. Slowly I scooted into position to lineup and lowered myself to get the two toned BG. I cant remember what provided that top color... The blacks are blocked under the beak/throat area... Another cloudy and windy day in Iceland.

I like the tight composition you presented. The straight on beak view works for me. Its sharp where it needs to be and the mouthful of eels adds interest for me. I think I would do a little more noise reduction to the BG. Very well done Ann!

Beautiful shot Ann. I love the look of the bird and the prey item is sweet. I love how it rests on the shoulder. Processing looks nice. I agree a bit more NR on the BG. TFS

The facial feather detail in this shot is unbelievable and the fish tell a great story. Only critique is that he feels a bit low in the frame; that top part is a pretty pastel but feels a bit empty.

I like the view of the fish, nice fine details and BG. I wish the head the HA was more symmetric though with both eyes showing the same amount

    This looks great Ann.
I know you love the reddish upper BG but I think I would crop from the top as it feels like a lot of empty space .
The sweeping lines created by the fishes bodies are wonderful and I love all those eyes.
Excellent DOF and blacks look good- I am OK with the blacks under the chin-not a deal breaker for me.
In a perfect world, the eyes of the puffin would be perfectly symmetrical. So now, you have a reason to go back and get that perfect 'down the barrel gaze".

PS Yes, to more NR or a bit of gaussian blur to prevent posterization.

Thanks All, I cropped tighter and reduced empty space above puffin, warmed a few points, then ran another round of NR. I agree, I need to find the symmetrical puffin image!

Hi Ann, lovely EX, SH and detail. I love the position of the fish in the bill and that the eyes are visible. I like your original post better with just a tad off the top, I think that little extra part of the breast helps the portrait. Thank you for sharing.

Ditto all the positives above. My favorite part is the upper fish eye on our right!

Ann, what's not to like, a wall hanger for sure.
