So I decided to have some fun with the small Olympus EM-5 sensor. Mounted a Nikon 500mm f/4 P manual focus lens + TC-14B so that's 1400mm equivalent at about 25 feet. The image is uncropped, no flash. The end result is a little noisy (was a cloudy day as well) but the detail in the cheeks and watching it de-husk the sunflower seeds before eating in its mouth was cool to see. Processed in Topaz Adjust and Topaz Denoise, finally Photoshop Elements. Added more NR to the background to smooth it out.

    ISO 1600, 1/250 sec, f/5.6, Olympus EM-5

Fun to get close, but for photography you were too close with that clipped crest. If possible you could have backed up and/or take some verticals. I also wish for frontal lighting rather than backlit, but I do like the glowing crest. I'm sure you had a ball as observing bird behaviour from so close is pretty cool. Better than check-marking a list from 200 yards away

Ditto Dan and bummer on the seed. With the light from the rear you need to do some work to open up the shaded face. LMK if you need some help.
