    Default Horned Grebe

I'm continuing to go through old files, and came across this portrait of a Horned Grebe, captured when he visited my local lake late one spring afternoon in 2015. This was taken using the Nikon 500f4 plus the 1.7 TC. I've rarely used the 1.7, having convinced myself that I wasn't getting consistently sharp images with that combination, but this one looks pretty sharp to my eye. WDYT?

Hi Bill, that head is sharp and looks great, I'd suggest removing 2nd catchlight, otherwise, I'd be pleased with this beauty! TFS

Hi Bill, looks good to me. I agree with Ann regarding removing the second catch light. Thank you for sharing.

Fits the theme well. Love the detail here and that red eye.

A little better every day; a very slow process but coming along. Thanks for asking.

    The IQ is excellent.
I wish for a couple of degrees head turn towards us and would remove the second catchlight.
I would love a sliver more room on the bottom of the frame.
    Very nice image Bill!

Super sharp. As Gail noted, a bit more head turn would have made this one even better. As the image design is a bit awkward, you might want to try going vertical in a similar situation ... As I say often to the boys and girls when we are photographing ducks, "When the bird gts to large in a horizontal frame turn the camera on end and try for a vertical front end portrait. that would give you some water below the bird's breast ...
