I have been thinking of making the trek to Ft. Desoto so have been reviewing images from last year. I captured this Reddish Egret with a fish there last September. Comments and critique welcomed and appreciated. Thank you for viewing.

Whoooaaa, thats a catch, please tell, did Big Red have that fish dinner? That fish looks rather spikey. Any chance you could try selecting the head to get a bit more sharpening there? Also, the dark water looks like it has a magenta color to it, again, I'm on shakey ground here but maybe I am seeing that cast? If not, my apologies Joe, just stretching my wings and trying to apply what I am learning... I like the image, the behavior and of course, Big Red, he's my all time FAV!

No apologies needed, after reading your comment and checking the image I agree with your critique. This was kind of like Artie's juvenile Yellow Crowned Night Heron in his blog. Too yellow and a little too much magenta. The out of the camera temperature was 5750, setting the white balance to daylight lowered the temperature to 5500 and also pulled back the magenta by eight points, making the water more blue and the dark wave less of a magenta cast. Thanks for viewing and commenting, Ann... very much appreciated.

Hey Artie, bad wave huhhh, will have to only shoot good waves in the future. The locked focus point was on the upper right hand thigh of the bird. This bird was running around, really hard to anticipate and keep up with it. In hindsight I probably should have gone for more depth of field and used the group autofocus mode. Next time... Always nice to get the prey in the mouth. This would have made a nice vertical. Exposure looks good.

I like the Big Catch. I think the eye is not that sharp. Agree with all the other points.

Yes, a bad wave like the one in my first oystercatcher getting fed image ... I'd be against more d-o-f. Moving the AF point up would have helped, possibly with d-72. Or you could have tried 3D ....

Super fun! Always good to get these guys mid-meal. I agree with Ann about the pinkish cast on the water (and the whole image). A quick bump towards green
would help fix that. I'd also be curious to see what vertical crops looks like. Right now his head is really close to the frame edge.
