    Default Black Kite in flight

Hi all. Took this a few days ago at Lake Clarendon, around 80 kms west of Brisbane. I was told that it was a good locality for raptors. As we drove on an open road near the lake I saw this Kite in the distance. I parked the car and hoped that it would come closer, which it did. However, it was around 10am and the light wasn't the best...sun getting high up in the sky. It was only one of two Kites seen that day. Unfortunately most of the shots were underexposed (still learning!), but here's one of the better shots after processing in Photoshop CC. 7D Mkii, 100-400 at 286mm, f6.3, 1/2000th sec. ISO640 in manual mode. Cheers.

    Hi Paul,
Is that something in the bird's talons? Wonder what it is...
Nice focus on the bird and I like that is angled toward us. Your critique touches on the areas for improvement - light does seem to be high in the sky. Still a nice shot overall with details in the shadows.

    Hi Allen,
Thanks for the feedback. Yes, I'm not sure what's in the talons either...only noticed it when editing the photo. Cheers.

Pretty good flight shot of this kite. The blue sky background is nice.

Great eye contact in this shot, and the exposure looks good, particularly against the bright sky. But the shooting angle is pretty steep, and that's always going to limit the effectiveness of the frame.

    Hi Dorian,
Thanks for the feedback. I have quite a few other shots of this Kite, some with a better angle...yet to edit them. Cheers.
