I recently introduced the wonderful Noisy Friar Bird and here's a shot from the same session of a bird taking off and yet to engage it's flying apparatus.
    1DXII 400mm F/2.8L II & 2XIII 800mm 1/4000 f7.1 iso 800 resting on vehicle bonnet.
Cropped to my taste slight S&H and sharpen in PS.
A link to a video of an interesting sky with a background chorus of a large flock of these birds https://goo.gl/7xQGvj.

    Hi Colin,
That's an interesting take off pose - well caught. Interesting bird too with that nobby head. Nice BG. I think the bird is a little soft. TFS.

Looks like the bird is falling off the perch. The background is great. Composition works as well.

That is wicked. What's it waiting for? My only wish is that the bird were angled ever-so-slightly toward us rather than angled ever-so-slightly away. I am guessing that if it had been coming slightly toward you that the face and the front half of the body would have been lit a bit better.

    with love, artie

Hi Colin, Fabulous take off, I agree w Artie, wish that ruby eye was glowing and not as shaded... A beautiful image, well done.

Colin, what a wild looking bird, a little soft but great perch, BG and pose.

Really fun capture! I agree with the minor critiques others have presented, but this image is all about the launching pose. The light and BG really make this crack!

Thanks for the comments, looks like I need a new pair of glasses. Tried to avoid over sharpening and was clearly too cautious.
