5 Yellowlegs landed close to where I was. Contrary to what I anticipated, the 4 Lessers flushed away, but the 1 Greater stayed. It performed a few crazy antics (diving fully submerged in the water and jumping out, repeatedly). It then bathed, and offered the obligatory wing flap, which I am sharing here.
Canon 7DII + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC III, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/1600s., f/5.6, ISO 800, natural light, handheld, cropped for comp, toned down the brightest whites via burn tool (then sponge tool to add back some saturation there).
Ooh I love the water colors and the creamy background here. Need to change your name to Mr. Wing Flap! This is just all around pretty Daniel. A really great shorebird image really with all the elements you need, great light, action, water droplets and a perfect background. Photography for me is not always about the most dynamic pose or the best action. It is about capturing a beautiful moment and you have done that really well here.
Love the early light and the soft blue water. I have seen them doing the crazy stuff but never close enough to photograph.
with love, artie
