Hi Jon, love the 'playful' antics of this Hyena, not something we see, it's more the 'killer' aspect.

My first thought is the grass looks like it's on steroids, way too green. I might also look at say a 16x9 crop with less above??? Taming the grass, darken the tongue, does help IMHO. Techs look about right, although I'm wondering if say 6.3 may have helped, then less ISO, WDYT? Like the depth/detail in the muzzle/nose area.

A very cute youngster, Jon - great timing and good techs too. I am smiling here reading Steve's comment about the grass, it does look like it's on steroids LOL. But I do remember the Kruger had a lot of rain at the time, and this after a long period of draught.

This is a cheerful frame depicting the subject in a relaxed state, and I love those dark mischievous eyes and visible tongue. I liked your composition but when I saw Steve's I realised it works better, not only it adds more emphasis on the subject but also eliminates the more untidy bits at the top. Colours look natural to me, face is nice and sharp and with good detail.

Really happy that you came back with so many images from this trip. Friend of mine spent some time in Shingwedzi recently and had a number of leopard sightings - I haven't been so lucky on my last trip but looking forward to see the Park again in October

Thank you so much for sharing Jon,

    Kind regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

What a cutie, Jonathan. Playful moment captured beautifully. Look at that face. I'm okay with the original grass color.

Love the head up, visible eye, hanging tongue pose here Jonathan, disagree with the steroidal green grass here and if there was recent rain, it would be this vibrant for sure.

Steve's RP looks a little flat, less vibrant here IMO.

Hi Jon, this is a lovely shot with that playful pose and the tongue sticking out. Good details on the head and Steve's crop option works better in my opinion. Nice one.

HI Jonathan -- Pretty late on this , but i quite liked the pose with the tongue sticking out. Crop suggestion by Steve works here , not sure on the colour of the grass in steve's rp, looks a bit dull. I have seen very vibrant greens in the Mara during the short rains , so as far as your OP is concerned the colours in the grass looks fine. I also see a bit of noise in the top portion of the frame.

Hi Jon - Sorry to be late with my comments, a new job got in the way. I too love the playful nature of the pose here. It has been a long time since I was in Africa during the rainy season so I will defer to you and others on the colors of the grass. I do like Steve's crop suggestion.

    Rachel
