One of my favorite behaviours to watch and photograph is that of shorebirds bathing in shallow water, and then performing the obligatory "after bath" wing flap. Here I was happy to also get the "jump" they often do while flapping. I wrote a short blog with tips on how to photograph this behaviour, if interested to check it out, click here:

Canon 7DII + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC III, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/1250s., f/5.6, ISO 1600, natural light, handheld, added canvas below then cropped from above to taste.

Very nice. Love the pose on the bird. The two toned background is excellent. Nice details as well.

Super job Dan, nice jump up and wing position. I also like the clean BG and few water drops. BTW, very nice article you wrote. I will be shooting shorebirds throughout the weekend and always look forward to those bathing opportunities!

Sweet pose here and I like the high key look. I would brighten this up a little and add a few points of black or do a small levels adjustment to deepen the brown tones of the bird.

Love the angel looking pose and the motion blur on the wings is great. Sweet BG too. Love the feet hanging as well. TFS

Everything looks really nice. Beautifully captured.

I like the pose and the background colors. I read the blog as well. Thanks for sharing the info.
