Geoff. . . to me this image appears to have motion blur, and the background is distracting and noisy. I don't mean to be harsh but the image is not that captivating to me, especially because this species looks so similar to our invasive Eurasian Collared Dove. Looks like you were in tough light.
I agree the head is a bit soft - critical focus being on the rump/wingtip. The comp is good, and the perch is interesting. BG is a bit too mottled. Neat to see different species!
I like this one Geoffrey. Background is not traditional but works for me for exactly that reason and I find it interesting. Funky burned perch as well and the lines in the background balance out that perch. You have a nice head angle but as discussed the head is a bit soft. Maybe try to selectively run some DE on the head at about 30% to see if it helps. Also maybe a little more smart sharpening at maybe .3 and 70 or so on only the head. Might bring out that little extra that you need. It wont' be tack sharp but it will get you closer.
