Fall migration is in full swing, and this is one of the early migrants that signal the beginning of this most exciting bird photography seasons. I do not often see them in breeding plumage, so this was a real treat seeing three of them together. This one was the most "pristine" of the three. I had not noticed the burgundy around the eye and gape before, how very cool.

Canon 7DII + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC III, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/1250s., f/8, ISO 800, natural light, handheld while prone in the mud, just about FF (small rotation and crop), eye work, enhanced the separation between the black primaries (dodge tool).

I like the low POV and calm water. Bird looks great with good details throughout. I like the open beak. TFS

Gorgeous shot, Daniel. The open beak and those few bands of blue in the water really elevate the whole image.

Fabulous looking frame Dan. The different coloured blues, sets the scene real good. Lovely detail on the bird and great POV.
