American Oystercatcher preening at Fort de Soto. So many very nice oystercatchers on the site recently. I rarely saw one until I headed for the Tampa, St. Pete area. I really like these birds. I wish the feet were visible, but I like the feathers.

Nice preening pose and angle. You handled the harsh light well. You could put the bird further to the right in the frame, too bad the 'sand castle' is in front of the legs.

Susan...after commenting your bear photograph, I noticed that this one lacks shadows as well....are you working on a calibrated monitor...and if so...what monitor are you working on. Your timing and framing are good...but you might want to focus a bit more on the post-processing part. With just some minor tweaking in levels and curves you can get an image which would be much more appealing to most of us.

Thanks you Jasper. I agree with you now that I can see the difference. My monitor is not calibrated, but I will certainly be more attentive to my blacks.

Lovely image and good timing to catch him preening. What I particularly like is the beautiful feather detail you captured in this image Susan. Fine work !

    Hello Susan,

Excellent picture of this impressing bird... Having the nice water as bg show the bird's habitat and enhances so well the Oystercatcher. The feathers details are splendid and you did great with the black exposition... I like very much Jasper's workshop too...

Great job and thanks for sharing!

I was at Fort Desoto today and folks may be interested to know that there is an oystercatcher on a nest in the roped-off "nesting" area. I understand the nest was created a couple of weeks ago so the eggs should be hatching (hopefully!) in a few days. I really like preening images and this one is great with the added advices.
