In general these guys prefer to hang out in evergreens, but readily forage for small insects and other tidbits to glean off deciduous tree leaves. Another from my folks' cottage, gotta love access to a place like that!

Canon 7DII + 500mm f/4 II + 1.4TC III, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/250s., f/5.6, ISO 1600, natural light, handheld, cropped fro comp, contrast/saturation adjustments to taste, usual eye work. Audio used.

I like the detail in the blacks, esp. on the cheeks and the fine feather detail on the back. What was the pink background btw? Also did you apply NR to the background?

Nice composition and great sharpness for hand held image at that focal length.

I like the natural framing of the leaves on one hand but also find them competing a bit with the subject due to their size. I like the overall colours of the image. Would also be interested to know what the pinkish background was.

    Thanks guys!

Oops, forgot to mention that yes indeed, NR applied to the BG only. The BG is a section of the gravel road leading up to my folks' cottage.

Color palette here Daniel is really nice. That walkway makes for a beautiful background. Framing is excellent. Lucky to have these guys down at eye level. The places where they nest around here they stay 50 feet up in the tops of coniferous trees. If this is a set up I think it would be stronger if the leaves were smaller as now they seem to over power the bird a bit.
