A fine shot Arash, that's what I call an SEO! I have just had a look in PS and set Gamma to 1.1, I suspect you will disagree but I think a slight contrast reduction benefit?? Could be of course you see them in better light than I do, it's just that they don't seem to be so punchy to me over here.

Might be local differences Jon, your other picture looks a bit dull on my screen so It could be monitor differcnrs too. Funny when I look at Steve’s owl shots from the U.K. it looks pretty close to our species here but not sure if these are the same area etc.

Beautiful shot with great light and direct stare. Ours on the East Coast don't look quite so "punchy" either, when I'm lucky enough to see one. Maybe the light, or time of year. In any case I really like the look of this one as presented.

I can't pull my eyes away from that stare Arash! Clear, sharp with complementary background colors - background with perfect softness! Nice one!

Hi Ari, great eye contact, and I like the soft light. Excellent detail on the face, and your placement/comp works well. Killer smooth upper BG.

Great eye contact, even lighting and a nice perch with pleasing vegetation in the lower frame.
I live in the area that this was taken and photograph these same owls in the fall. I would say that they can sometimes be this dark. We had a male and female couple at our local estuary last November and one of them was very dark and orange and the other much lighter and washed out. As I understand it the female is the darker one and the male the lighter ones (check Sibley guide to see this pictured). Also this could be a young owl with new darker feather tips.

Wonderful shot overall. My only minor quibble is the breast feather detail is a little soft.

Thanks Jack, you may not have seen one of these but that's how the breast looks like, the have very soft chest feathers.
