Hi Rob, I have moved this image to Eager to Learn where it can get additional help.

I like the calling bird, the interaction, and the basic composition. The image, however, has several major problems.

1: There is a big cyan color cast.
2: The wing of the top bird is cut off by the frame edge.
3- The image is well underexposed. Your meter saw the light sky and closed down too, too much.

The more you get out and the more images you optimize the better the results will be.

I would suggest that getting and studying a copy of ABP II would be a great help to your devleopment as a digital nature photographer. good luck!

Hi Rob Artie covered the main points well

Here is a good example on exposure, you need to get it right the first time since often there is no second chance.

The light seems to be coming from the back since the tails are very light but there is not much light on the front of the birds. Cases like this call for adding light. No compensation was given so not sure what you were doing metering wise. Would suggest to go back to the histogram and take a look then check the exp comp.

I took the liberty to correct the colors a bit and brightened up the birds plus the usual noise reduction and sharpening selectively.

    Welcome Rob !!
