    Default Elephant Herd

I had incredible elephant sightings often in good light at Kings Camp in the Timbavati Game Reserve on my recent trip. Several elephant herds came together to form a super herd. Here one of the herds paused in the dry riverbed to dig for fresh water.

H iRachel, this is a nice looking herd, all in good health it seems. Love the light and that all of them are nearly facing you. The two little ones add even more interest. The SS is 1/750? Seems like a typo?

Thanks Sanjeev, no typo, that's what the EXIF says. At 220mm, the herd mostly still and with a private vehicle, I wasn't concerned with needing more ss.

Very nice scene here. You caught a good view of the little one in the front. Details look good. Your camera may be set up in 1/2 stops instead of 1/3 stops.

Cute family scene Rachel, and the little one is adorable! Did they manage to find water? The little droplets of mud on one of the the adults' trunk tells me they did:)

This is well composed and I am really enjoying the behavioural aspect of this frame. Colours look natural and I like that bit of sand flying about on the RHS of the image.

The scene you have captured makes me think of the local reserve near my village, I often find elephants milling around in the riverbed looking for water. Fortunately we have had some rain in the catchment areas and the rivers are flowing, amazing to have this in the winter:)

Many thanks for sharing, and I am looking forward to see what other species you encountered during your Africa trip

    Warmest regards,

    Hi Rachel,

Lovely family capture in nice morning light. Like the wet feet and leg on youngster plus wet areas on adults, indicating they did find water. I too like the sand and pebbles being kicked up on the far right.
