    Nice sharpness on the bird and a good head angle, Steve. The image works for me because the head is clear of the grass stems and because it doesn't look like a mowed lawn.

    Focus is sharp, Steve, but I find the lighting a bit dull and flat looking. I guess the grass is also a bit of a distraction because it covers much of the body. Not sure how you processed the image, but anything you can do to brighten the image and add some contrast would be beneficial.

    The grasses don't bother me either, but I agree the image needs some "punch"-- if using Adobe Camera Raw, I;d try playing around with the contrast, vibrance, clarity, and saturation settings to see if you can improve it.

    I like the idea and soft light. Maybe you could put the bird further to the left in the frame and I would prefer more eye contact.

    Thanks for the comments and suggestions. Upon further review, I guess it could use a little "punch". Mostly wanted opinions on the grass as a change from the usual smooth BGs.
