    Default Kite even closer

Following on from my previous posting of the Black-shouldered Kite, I visited the same location (again) and spotted this one on a lower branch than before. I decided to try a head shot. Some pp in ACR and PS. Only cropped a little: Hand-held, AV mode, 400mm, 1/2000thy sec, f6.3, iso400. Cheers.

Nice head shot Paul, I like the close up details. The colors look a bit dull on my screen and it's a bit too large and too centered in the frame

Very nice. Details look good. You were quite close i would have stopped down some more you had the ISO and shutter speed to work with. Agree with Arash about the crop. Just a little too tight.

Nice looking bird and a good looking portrait. The sun was a little high, especially for a deep browed bird like this kite but most of the eye isn't shadowed.

This image is lacking contrast and vivid colors. As Arash stated and if you look at the re-post, the image looks dull and as if there is a film over it.

I increased blacks, whites, saturation, lifted shadows and added some more canvas. Hope you like it and hope you can see the direction my eye is taking this.

Hi Arash, John & David. I very much appreciate all your feedback and comments. David...the re-edit looks good...a subtle change for the better. I must admit my original looks good on my main PC (calibrated monitor)...so I'm not sure if the conversion to sRGB has anything to do with the loss of contrast...I'll double check it and re-edit if necessary. The tight crop was due to a rather large patch of blue (sky) in the lower RHS, which I had to clone our...the tight crop making that an easier job. I've learnt a lot since joining this forum and really appreciate the constructive feedback. Thanks again.

David nailed the repost. You have great details here Paul but the shot is too tight and is dull. Have to give some room for the bird to breath.

This is a a great looking portrait, Paul and agree with the critiques so far (and improvement in the repost) by working on the colour and lighting. Also agree the composition is a bit tight as presented. I'd be inclined to lose a little off the bottom and add more on top and to the right but understand that will be dependent on the original frame.

Thanks Glenn. I made some changes to my original photo and agree that it needed more colour/contrast/ canvas added. I'm happy with the final result. Cheers.
