    Default Loon wing stretch

Here's one from the archives. This common loon image was taken from a boat in the early evening. The bird is doing a wing stretch prior to a series of wing flaps. As this image is mostly about the patterns and symmetry of the outstretched wings, I make no apologies about the head angle. :) - though I welcome other opinions. 20D, 300 f/4, 1/750, f/8, ISO 200. Full frame on the sides, but cropped top and bottom for composition.

Nice pose, light, angle and details. I might put the bird a bit further to the right in the frame.

With this type of image we are really able to see the wonderful detail on the feathers and I like the action you captured in this image too Steve. Having never had the opportunity of seeing a loon I find them fascinating . The lighting in this capture is beautiful as well. Many thanks for sharing.

    Hi Steve,
Nice study of patterns here that's interesting to explore. I don't mind the head angle myself as the eye is still visible. I'd be tempted to put the subject more LRC.
    Steve
