Hello everyone, from July 2011. Taken at the Outer Banks, N.C. It is a bit old, I am working on new images, hope to post some that will pass muster here soon enough. A good bit of grass stayed up overnight, the Grackles were feasting. One of those hazy beach days.

I agree with Krishna re: exposure. I would increase exposure/brightness.
Feather details look good.
For my taste, i would add a bit more to the bottom. In a perfect world, the grackle would be more parallel to you so we could see the body and tail a bit better.

It's a cute individual, and I really like the ruffled neck feathers and overall alert posture. I also like the very good low angle approach you took for this image. There are two problematic issues to me here though: the first is the too dark exposure. Don't be afraid to raise the ISO - I do not remember the last time I was below 400, and I am more often than not even higher than that. Second is the subject being too big in the frame. Either crop more loosely, or compose in-camera as such. This will give the composition more room to breath. BTW, I love the beach vegetation strewn around!
Oddly, I like the tight crop is this one and the darker look. It conveys a stormy, windy mood (along with the ruffled feathers) - but if that wasn't your intention, then definitely lift the brightness. Detail is beautiful and I love that eye with it's soft catchlight along with the vegetation.
Thanks very much everyone for all the help. I think though that the exposure issue is just one of my problems, I like them darker, feel that detail is lost with a brighter image. I actually thought it was too bright, will work on it. Thanks very much again for all the help.
