Trying My Wings
Taken this AM, central Fla, overcast sky, This is a young bird, not yet flying, but giving it a good try. Fussing at me in full voice!
Canon 20D, 400 f/5.6L
1/3200, f/5.6, ISO 400, EV -.1 Eval metering
Extended canvas top and right, Added wing tips, both sides, all kinds of CS3 tried and then B&W because nothing worked. Probably looks terrible but waiting to hear.

I think it works very well, Bill and since you are at it, try evicting the big branch covering the lower wing on the left of the frame, the bird's right wing.
Bill, that bird is magnificent - lots of great detail and no harsh shadows - great job! You did get a rather puny looking sky, though. Something I've learned to do is take a photo of the sky when I am out - some with clouds, some without - that I can use when my BG is really horrible. Although this isn't the best match in the world, I thought it might give you an idea for how to "patch" a sky in that would separate the bird from the sky so he really shows that beautiful detail.
No critiquing my on-the-fly cut and paste job...I only did this to show you what you could do if you wanted to get rid of that washed out sky. ;)
Thanks Julie, I have replaced a sky before but not recently. I will have to get my tutorials out and see the process again. It does make a difference and it looks good. Thanks, bf

Re-Post w/clouds etc
I took out the branches and also added clouds using the Filter>Render>clouds in CS3. Not as bright as wanted but it worked (I Think). Dont beat me up too much on my first try doing that. :) :D
