Ovenbird on the Move
I really need to work on my environmental shots. It seems to me there is a fine line between a good environmental example and busy BG. It's not always easy to get those compliant clean BG's, so I spent some time at Magee Marsh earlier last month ignoring the conventional stuff and working within the setting I was given. I think this shot works. IMO the bird is separated from the BG well enough and the action of his step adds enough to forgive. What say you?

I am trying to like this but feel that the bright oblong yellow thing directly behind the bird is a big problem.
If the oven bird had been in front of the grey tree trunk, this might have worked.
I do like the stepping pose.
I would crop this as a pano getting rid of some of the perch as it really weighs the image down.

Love the pose and excellent tone and detail of the bird in this shot. Like Gail, I think the bright area behind the bird is an issue. Yes, a lot of the time, busy backgrounds won't work but sometimes they come together. With an action shot like this, a lot of it is down to luck. Thanks for sharing as I always enjoy seeing something new.

I like the background with the exception of the bright area by the bird, sterile clean backgrounds are pleasant but we do see a lot of them, i find it refreshing to see a little texture there.. I think you could fix that bright area. I too would suggest a crop off the base.

I have too many shots that make me say "I'm trying to like this" ha ha. This was one of them actually. It's the step that did it for me in the end. I'll try a pano and see what it looks like. Thanks.
