    Default Squacco Heron take off

A subject we don't normally manage to capture in flight, so I was pleased to have at least captured a take off shot. Taken early morning which helped with the whites. Taken at a wetlands south of Johannesburg, same location as my recent incoming Swallow image.

Very Nice Take off. I like the separation of the Bill from the Body.

    Nice Background colors as well.

    Thanks for sharing.

Again fab detail. Love the take off pose. The BG is up to your usual great BG's The reflections of the reeds is a great backdrop for the bird. Very nice Stu. Did you wait long for the take off.

Hi Stu, love the white, outstretched wings against the green, your techs look good, I assume you were in anticipation. Well timed and that perch must be worth it's weight in gold.

Great looking birds. I tried many times during our Botswana adventure to catch them in flight, and as you suggest, I failed miserably. Only a few flight shots going away from me. So I'm envious of this lovely take-off shot. Nice job exposing those beautiful white wings, and the background is to die for.

This is super- as you say ,it is very unusual to see a photo of these guys taking off as they are usually hiding in the grasses and rarely out in the open like this.
Pose looks good with a great HA.
I think I would brighten this just a tad,
    Gail

Always fun to see a bird I've never seen before. I'm a sucker for color-trasitioning BG's. Maybe it's just a smidge back-focused or perhaps that's just the blur of the movement. Doesn't really take away from the image for me however.
