Chomp, chomp
A Crimson Rosella caught mid-bite. Crop is about two thirds of the frame area. These birds are so common I often overlook them and the frames I have of them. This one taken at a local wetland reserve last winter and I finally decided it might be worth processing. Getting detail in those red feathers is always a challenge but I think this one has worked out fairly well.
As always, thank you for looking and for any comments you are kind enough to share.
Technical: Canon 80D with EF100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM MkII at 400mm handheld. Manual exposure 1/250 sec, f7.1, ISO 800. Processed in Canon DPP 4 (digital lens optimiser @ 50, sharpness = 2.5, crop, lighting adjustments, reduced luminance NR) then exported 16 bit TIFF to Photoshop Elements with Neat Image NR plugin. Modest NR to bird and stronger NR to background. Bird only sharpened in PSE (Sharpness tool, remove Gaussian Blur, 0.4 pixels at 50%) after final size reduction.

Neat. You handleD the REDs and the ORANGEs quite well. You might wish to lose the white speck on the blue chin.

A bit tight for the tail so I would loosen the crop.
I love the feeding behavior shown,

Hi Glenn, I'm sure this fellow modelled for you - what a cool feeding behavioural pose. Good detail all round and just love those striking reds.

The striking reds though slightly blown make this image for me. I do wish the subject is a little smaller in the frame,

Very nice Glenn. I love these birds and have fond memories (and video) of them at Genolan Caves where they just land on you and eat out of your hand. Details are nice, as are the little berries. I agree that the bird is a bit large in the frame and that the reds can be toned down just a touch. I know how vibrant these birds are but I think toning the reds down will help to bring out a bit more detail. I would prefer more room to the left for the bird to look into.

Beautiful bird, nicely shown. You wrote, the crop is about two thirds of the frame area, I would explore a less tight crop. I think the composition you have to work with is wonderful. Thank you for sharing, Glenn.

Wow, fab colours Glenn especially the reds, which I agree about toning down a wee bit, but what a lovely colour. Great looking pose and the foot holding the berries is an eye catcher.

It is so hard to get the glowing reds right on this, you're almost there Glen, as Arash mentioned though, they look a bit cooked.
My only other comment is the crop, it's way too square (for me anyway) and I would want more room for the (non visible) tail.

Thank you all for your comments which point to a looser crop and some toning down of the red. I did check the red channel before posting - the only blown bits are some speckled parts of the shoulder and similar around the rim light on top of the head (plus some in the berries which I'm not worried about). As for crop, because the substrate was so busy, I was trying to minimise the impact and distraction is causes and did play with the crop a bit before settling here. Regardless, here is a repost with the suggested changes.
