One of the rare times I had this bird with a clean and plain BG.

Beautiful bird and a simple but elegant perch and BG. You did well with the noise considering the camera body you were shooting with; the D2 series is a little rough above ISO 400. I might try to bring out the eye color a little. Thanks for posting!

Beautiful bird and very nice light, head angle and details. The only thing I would change is the blurring of the rock that makes it look as if he stands on an island of sharpness. :)
