This shot is from a few years ago on a fall trip to Fort DeSoto, when a flock of spoonbills came in just as the sunset colours really started to heat up. Thankfully I had the tripod rig out, or the light would have been too dim to take a decent picture! The spoonbill isn't in breeding plumage colours, as the date is sometime in late September, but he's still very much "roseate", not unlike the water behind him! The final version is about an 80% crop of the original, including a minor curves adjustment.

    Love the colors here.
This reminds me of Juan Tolentino's images from last year.
I like the detail on the bird. Lovely head turn and DOF on the bill.
I am not fond of the crop you chose.
I would move the bird to the left of the frame and add more of the body to the right and crop out the legs completely.

Great colours and overall mood here. I agree about the crop, it would have been better had the spoonbill given you a "down-the-barrel" stare, or looked towards our left. Nice details though, and fantastic background.

sweet colors here Jake. I agree with Gail re the crop. Also I think there is a little more details that could be had from the bird.

Love all the pink tones and the engaging look. This is a strong contender for this month's theme (and I'm the judge!). Agree with Gail about making this a more traditional headshot though, assuming the detail stands up.

The crop looks off balance to me.
Love the colours! Just so beautiful. You have some gorgeous detail here!
