I'm posting this not because I think it's a great picture but because it appears to be one-legged & I wanted to get other pairs of eyes to look. Am I just not seeing a tucked-up leg, or do you agree that it has only one leg? Those of you who have lots of experience with birding/bird photography, is it very common to see a one-legged heron or for one to get along reasonably well?
I'm happy for critiques as well....:) Thanks!

Interesting composition Anita with the rocky BG and what appears to be one leg. Usually you can get a smell glimpse of the second leg which mkes me think he only has one. It does appear that the lighting is very harsh which makes it difficult to see the head and much of the detail . What time of day was this taken Anita ? Thanks very much for sharing this image and I will be interested to hear what others think about the leg.
Hi Anita, This image is several stops over-exposed. Do you have a darker one to post? I am unsure as to whether this bird actually has one leg or not as they often tuck one leg up into their belly feathers. In almost all cases it is obvious that the this is the case, but something about this bird makes me think that it might really have one leg.

Here's a darker version of this image, just cropped and slight histogram adjustment to the right. Taken at 7:30 a.m. on 5-16-08 (mistaken date posted earlier.)
The exposure is much better but with the light well from the right and the somewhat jumbled BKGR the image looks very contrasty. Still looks like one leg is missing to me...

Thanks for looking, Artie. I know the lighting isn't right....nor do I especially care for the background....:) Was just curious about the leg issue....
Tuttle outlet tubes? I'm sure it's probably another reservoir or lake in Kansas, but thought I'd at least hazard a guess. I'm with the others here in thinking that this heron probably only has one leg. The tibial feathers really look out of place and ruffled...odd.
