    Default Brown Bear Sow

Gabriela's recent lion cub image reminded me of this image of one of the brown bear mom's I took last summer. The reason for the tight crop on the rhs is that one of her cubs had come partially in the frame in the bg so I cropped right between them to eliminate the partial cub.

    Canon 7D2
    100-400 II @ 278mm
    1/1250
    f8
    ISO 800
HH, cropped to about 85-90% of ff as described above, levels, TK lumo masks, curves, color adjustment, sharpened in PSCC.

    C&C welcome and appreciated. Thanks,

    Rachel

Hey Rachel, ha ha love the grass in the mouth(I'm glad you kept that made me smile) and the look out of frame, great detail on her face!! It always amazes me how small their eyes are, they seem so massive yet such small eyes. Rachel I can't figure a work around, for the rhs, with her being so close to the edge of frame,i'm noticing that where as maybe I shouldn't,maybe add a tiny bit of canvas,so the crop looks/feels?? more deliberate. I've read your post understand the why's.

Man I love your bear images

Nice colour & detail here Rachel, but it does need that extra room on the RHS to look into. Post the FF it may not be as bad as you think. Subject to IQ I might go tighter.

I like the repost better. More room for the bear, don't mind the out of focus bear in the background. Detail looks good. That bear has a big head.

    Hello Rachel,

You were quite close to this bear mommy And she is gorgeous BTW, lovely pose too:)

Techs look good, this is a well exposed frame well processed. Wonderful colours as well as sharpness. Superb detail on those lovely eyes as well as mouth. In terms of composition, I know my suggestions won't be everyone's cuppa but I would crop tighter from the LHS, I find the little one too distracting. I would go even further and fill the frame with mommy bear - the IQ is so good you can go as far as you like WDYT?

A pleasure to view, thank you so much for sharing Rachel.

    Warmest regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

Thanks John and Gabriela. Gabriela - I think a bit too tight, I miss the ears in your rp. But coming in tighter might work.

    Thanks again,
    Rachel

Rachel I prefer FF too, for me the frame is so much improved

Rachel trust your instincts, you know how much I adore your images and what an incredible image maker I think you are !! For me you were better when framing than when you pondered more. Sometimes I feel we loose something when we don't trust our selves. We overthink and don't be what we could be

Rachel it is very very rare that I can even think about giving you advice.....very very rare, normally I can only offer wow or forms of that and tell you how much I feel about your images.

This one is from my heart, trust your self, your instincts,I wish I could articulate this without sounding pompous or something such,I haven't the eloquence to be that guy, sadly

This is from my heart so i'll post and hope you understand what I'm trying to say

    thanks for the repost

    take care mate

Hi Rachel -- Details , IQ , Colours all look good ! The crop is the one I am not sure about. The cub is a distracting element for sure and your version makes it a bit awkward . Rather I would prefer something on the lines of Gabriela's crop suggestion , including the ear as well .
    TFS !
