    Default Backlit WT Sea Eagle

I trust this image qualifies Stu?

A complete departure to how I normally shoot, but that was half the fun of the 'Boys' trip, to put some kit through it's paces, to learn from our mistakes, but ultimately - 'to have the craic'.

Going a bit more 'arty' in the PP, but still retaining the 'core values' of the original capture. For me 'detail' wasn't the primary part because it was backlit, but it's sharp, it was that lovely light, lighting up the bird. I also wanted to put it into context going slightly wider/smaller in frame and having both the cliff face and water in shot. Still shooting from our small skiff bobbing about in the fjord.

Thanks to those who viewed or especially commented on the previous image.

    That is awesome, Steve!

I love the way the sun is highlighting parts of the bird. It provides drama despite the relatively unexciting flat wing position.

Personally, I would have gone for a more pano crop, taking the edge to within about 4 cms of the top of the bird.

Lots of good craic to be had in a small skiff!

Thanks Gerald, from previous postings I think you know the location.

This has many possibilities in terms of crops, I just wanted for once to go 'small in frame', but will take a look, thanks.

It's taken about three years for me to finally concede and go there and we did have a huge laugh, but I just like shooting on my own, howevert saying that I'll be out in a couple of months time lending a had to a workshop being the Canon representative, LOL .

    Hello Steve,
I certainly agree with Gerald, this is stunning.

Love the elegance of this Sea Eagle in flight, beautiful rim of golden light and those translucent feathers. Super techs and beautifully processed, such a creative and unusual frame - I truly enjoyed viewing, superb work Steve!

    Warmest regards,
    Gabriela Plesea

Hi Steve, this image rocks. The rim lighting couldnt be better, and there is enough light/exposure on the Eagle to show up against the darker cliff BG. This is certainly sharp, love the concentrated stare ahead, together with the dangling legs.

For the month's theme - a good pass.

Great looking image Steve. The rim lighting really makes this an eye catcher. Lovely BG and POV. I like your chosen crop. Very nice indeed. I'm off to Mull on Saturday for a week, if I get anything half as good as this, when at the WTEs, I will be more than happy.

    Good work.

Outstanding image, Steve. My first impression was how great the detail from the darkest to lightest feathers. Nice backdrop and low flight over the water. Well done.

    Thanks folks.

I hope you get some decent weather Will, the 'light' would be a nice bonus for sure, but please don't come back with Otters , but it would be great to see some on BPN.

One of your nicest shots for a while Steve, the rim lighting works perfectly here. I love having BG interest in shots, but if the IQ holds I'd have preferred a tighter crop here as for me, its all about the golden light.

That could well work, albeit I'm not a big fan of pano's. Just that the light here is so nice I think it would be nice to be right 'in your face'. I first viewed it on my phone where it filled most of the screen and looked more dramatic, but I don't like commenting until I see it on a proper screen.

I want to keep the width, but here is another option.

    Thanks
