Here is a northern juvi (and friendly) NH from HMB, CA. Got this frame in my first outing with the Nikon gear and before my 600 was shipped. Needed the FL so added the TC-14E III to the Nikon 200-500. Stay tuned for the review of this combination soon

    Nikon D850, 200-500 VR + TC14 III ISO 1000 f/8 at 1/3200sec hand held. processed with C1P.

Arash - I love the green bg with just a bit of the browns from the grasses near the bottom. I agree with goin vertical here and obviously like the perfect wings up pose.

Hi Arash, a cracking capture, but personally the IQ I think is not as good as when you were with Canon gear, just my take. However the Raw may be far superior and that is the ultimate benchmark.

Super! Love the underwing view. Good IQ considering zoom and TC. Suspect 600 would have blown this guy away in the best sort of way....

Arash, sorry it doesn't do it for me, I usually look in awe at you predatory birds but this seems to be in a lower league than your usual work. The browns and blacks don't seem to reveal any detail, definition does not seem to be up to your usual standard.. is it a big crop?

hey Steve this image had a dirty trick I will reveal later

as for canon vs Nikon the Nikon AF and IQ is just superior to Canon. No doubt about it.

    Intriguing.

Yes the 850 is nice, but I'm too entrenched with Canon to change .

    Enjoy.

BTW you would not believe the weather conditions in Ladner CA, in Feb, we had 8 inches of snow that day with the Long eared owl.

No Long, I'm sure, I will email you. Wet, only on the days I'm shooting there, the rest is just skiing.

Love your work Arash but this is not your usual superb IQ, detail is lacking and looks flat, no definition. love the setting and BG...

Like the pose and the dangling feet. Is this originally a vertical or was it cropped from a horizontal?

    Thanks everyone for commenting.

the problem with this image was heat shimmers, at this location and this time of the year strong heat shimmers cause serious issues when shooting in the evening. They can ruin an entire day of shoot as was the case here, however I was able to salvage this file using a trick in capture one pro. It's not perfect by any means including my own liking, but it still looks good on my calibrated 4K NEC (not sure how it looks on those old crunchy monitors), the plumage of the juvenile harrier is more pale than the adult. To give you an idea of how horrible the RAW file looked like I am posting it below

Thanks John, all flight shots are taken horizontally, you cannot handhold and pan a big lens in vertical orientation
