Default Issue in getting Sharp BIF photo

    Attached Images Attached Images

    Hi,

I have been shooting with 7D mark II + 400 F4 DO II handheld and in last two weeks I have taken atleast 500 Shots of bald eagles but they are not coming sharp.
I am not sure what I am doing wrong for flight shots
I went to Machias Seal Island and came back with 0 sharp Puffins in flight.
The following image attached is one of the Sharpest images I got. Here are the EXIF
    Shutter 1/2000
    ISO 125
    F-stop 4.0
    Manual Mode
Exp Comp was 0. Using Center +4 Autofocus points and AI Servo Mode. I use back button focus.
Opened in DPP4 and lifted Shadow slider to 4. This is cropped to 100%.
Few shots are taken with 2500 - but not improvements.

Is it me & my technique and/or the 7D ii Body is causing the problem. I also got a 5Div, yet to try the action and In flight shots with 5div+400f4 do ii combo.
    Please Help/Advice.

Hi Subham this image looks like heat shimmers to my eye

check out this article on my blog http://arihazeghiphotography.com/blo...always-needed/

having said that the 7D series is not a great camera for BIF, it will give more soft frames than sharp ones

Thank you Arash. Great Article and explained in a laymans way. I never realized heat shimmers could be an issue.
By the way, your review on the canon 400 mm F4 Do ii drove me towards the lens - and never regret it. Thank you again.
