Whenever I saw oxpeckers I just had to take an image!

Love this capture, Jonathan. Had to smile at the pose of both, and they appear to be captivated by something in front of them. Wonderful colors and great detail. Excellent work on the BG.

Hi Jon, a nice encounter and I can understand why you felt you had to stop each time you saw an Ox P. A very rich image, but having to do so much manipulation to the BKG was it necessary???? I can understand the odd leaf, highlight, fly or even another Photo tog way in the distant, but for this, was it that distracting??? Cracking detail, but I think you may have been at the extreme for the DoF chosen, perhaps even more??? Light looks nicely handled, but would a portrait format have worked?

Keith, "is that the shadow of the bird on the Impalas back"? I think it must be, I hadn't realised it was!

Nice Jon - theres something about oxpeckers on animals that always make me smile - they look so smug! Not sure how much you did to the BG but there are no strikingly obvious changes

Hi Jon - Wow, they were really cooperative for you with 2 good HAs too. Lovely detail. Nice control of the whites and blacks too. I am seeing a very slight magenta cast to the whites (most evident in the ears) and also to the bird's shadow. It may be natural in the ears but the shadow is what is making suspect it may be introduced.

Thanks for the feedback everyone, I hadn't noticed the cast Rachel but now you have mentioned it I can see a slight hint. I attach the original, you can then see what I did to present this one.

Hi Jon, at 256 colours you have a better eye sight than me, but unless one views the raw, to me this looks fairly spot on in terms of basic colour capture, as presented.

With regard to the manipulation, that's for you to decide on how far you wish to go, personally I might have looked for a different crop, but had the shoulder of the BKG Impala in. I guess with hindsight, the 500 with the 1.4 may have given you a better frame, more data, more IQ as you will not have had to crop so hard and thrown all that info away.

    Has Africa now hooked you????

    Cheers
    Steve
