Certainly one of our least 'colourful' birds but there's something primeval about them that will always fascinate me. Having said that - they actually show off beautiful iridescent colors when the sun catches them correctly but that was not an option today under a doomy, gloomy sky. I've had to push the ISO's for the same reason.

This one has been busy foraging! May be drab, but beautiful feathers. Nice and sharp. Good overall, but the image would benefit from more space all around as the subject is rather large in the frame.

Thanks for commenting Daniel! I must admit I love to go in as close as possible on my bird shots.
I guess I can add extra space in PS although it might be a challenge at the bottom - the image is uncropped.

Great pose, and nice range of muted colors. I love the telltale bits of debris showing that he has been foraging. One of the birds that was on my wish list that I failed to get a decent image of, on my recent Botswana trip.

Very nice shot. Love all the detail on the bird and lovely bkg. Sometimes I like a fall off on in focus - on this one I'm not sure... I might like the tail feathers in focus as well in the best of all worlds. But, good shot for sure. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Tobie, tack sharp on the feather detail, and I agree, their colours do show up in good light - not that we are having any at the moment. Before reading Dan's comment, I too thought more space, especially at the bottom. Killer BG.

Looking real good Tobie. Fabulous details against a killer BG. I don't mind the bird tight in the frame.
