This was photographed back in early January, when the temperatures were hovering near the -40C mark. The birds were all puffed up. This American Robin must have been wondering why it had not flown south with its friends at the onset of winter! It allowed slow and close approach for full-frame portraits, with this one being my favorite.

Interesting portrait... the snow/ice on the bill asks why is this robin there when it could find warmer spaces. The depth of field is getting lost on the fringes of the head, maybe F11 would have been better. Not sure, I am not familiar with that camera and lens combination, also how close your were to the bird. Other techs spot on as always. Nice composition and colors. Thank you for sharing, Daniel.

He really chose to wear his biggest down jacket. Interesting comp, good color and nice detail (with DOF noted). At least some of our Robins choose to stick around all winter.

I wouldn't be surprised at him not flying off I suspect his feet were frozen to the ground! Those colours look terrific, excellent detail.

Great detail here. Love the fluffed up look. The ice on the bill is nice.

Cool portrait and I like the unconventional crop. I do wish more of the head was in the depth of field.

Big Boy! Beautiful color and detail. I don't mind the DOF as noted by others. I actually wish for a bit more room around the bird to give his puffiness
a bit more context. But a very nice shot!
