This image was created on the miracle morning of April 9, 2018 at the Riparian Preserve at the Gilbert Water Ranch in Phoenix, AZ. I used the Induro GIT 304L/Mongoose M3.6-mounted Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 600mm f/4E FL ED VR lens, the Nikon AF-S Teleconverter TC-14E III, and the Nikon D850. ISO 400. Matrix metering about +2/3 stops as framed: 1/1250 sec. at f/7.1. AUTO1 WB at 7:18am on a sunny morning. Center Group (grp) AF point/Shutter button AF was active at the moment of exposure. The left hand AF point in the array was right on the bird’s face. Focus peaking AF Fine-tune: +4.
This single image pretty much sums up why I switched to Nikon after 35 years on the White side; it was one of a sequence of five images, all tack sharp on the eye ... To learn more about the creation of this image and my experiences at Gilbert, click here and then do some surfing.
As for the image, please do not be shy; all comments and suggestions are both welcome and appreciated.

Hi Artie, excellent head on capture here, and I like the fanned tail spread between the wings. Great show of both eyes, those reds pop nicely, and the droplets add interest. Killer BG too.
Artie - wow those eyes pop against that bg. The image is striking...the eyes, face, bill, and shoulders all look sharp to me. The water droplets, the bg, and the down wing pose are all great. On my screen, there appears to be a dust mark near the right edge of the frame where the golden color transitions to the green. Thanks for sharing this one.
A steady hand and quick reflexes I think to get this shot Arthur---the eyes of course
are outstanding but I really like the way the fanned out tail is framed by the down angle wings.

Thanks Noel, The D850 is a dust magnet ... I missed that one. With love, a
