I was delighted to see this dimunitive marsh bird in Botswana. I guess it is common enough there, although often secretive, but my attempts at seeing and photographing his Western Hemisphere cousins have been abysmal. As he poked around in this little marsh he was generally concealed or partially so, but for a few moments he popped into the open. One of the problems with our trip was that in the Concessions where we traveled, regulations generally prevented us from leaving the Land Cruiser, so getting a low POV was impossible. In this case that may have worked to my advantage as I was able to catch him on a lily pad framed between foreground and background vegetation.
What a cool bird!! I love the line of flowers along the top, very nice touch. I do feel that the very bright leaves directly below the subject pull the eye though, perhaps toning them down would work well. That was a very productive trip!
