Default Black-necked Stilt at High Tide

I finished up my first full week using the 1.4x teleconverter while getting used to both the rewards and penalties of using it. I was alternating between shooting the beautiful breeding plumage reddish egret rocking his hunting dance and this stilt, hence the higher ISO and SS.
Below are short rundowns of settings and my post processing:

Canon 7Dii and 100-400mm L ii with the EF1.4x III teleconverter
    ISO 800
    AV ƒ/8
    TV 1/5000
    Focal Length 560mm
Manual Exposure / Servo / Manual Focus / Handheld

    Processed in DPP4 and PScc

    1) I removed a few OOF spots and dust spots from the water
    2) added Nik DE and NR on both subject and BG separately
    3) lightened the eye a bit using the Tim Grey dodge and burn method

Thanks for taking the time to look. As always, comments are appreciated.

I like the pose very much. Bird looks great in the beautiful calm water. I like that you left the 2 grasses on the right and feel they balance the image nicely. It looks like critical focus was on the body of the bird and not the head though because the head is soft.

Agree with Isaac about the focus. Still the composition works well here.

A very nice pose, and as Isaac said I like the two grasses on the right.

Given a shutter speed ot 1/500 and the plain background, I wold have considered going down to F11 for the DOF and increase the chance of getting the eyes in focus.

Thanks for commenting. Yes, I think in similar future situations I'll make sure to stop down more to ensure DoF covers the whole subject for insurance. This shot was pretty funny as I was getting bitten by a fire ant and sweat was falling in my eyes as I was trying to focus manually while this guy was moving towards me. It's a bit different working with a teleconverter, but I'll get it. Thanks again.
