It wasn't the best of weather at the Glen this weekend. I did manage to get close to a few Red Grouse, for this months theme. This male is in total breeding mode. The 'wattle' on top of the eye, goes bright, and grows to almost twice its normal size. He was so full of testosterone he actually attacked me, in flight. I started with the 1.4 attached, but it was obvious I was going to get real close, so I removed it. I had to schoo the bird away from me, so I could get in focus on several occasions. Anyway, I took full advantage, and did manage a few f/8 shots with a decent shutter speed, when the light was a little better.
Good portrait. Just enough vegetation in the FG to add interest (but if mine I would surely remove the small horizontal twig at the bottom). Nice details. Once in a while we get a Ruffed Grouse over here that needs to be constantly shooed away to fit in the frame...what a fun problem to have!
