Looking good Jon. Nice crop which shows the perch in a good place. Lovely colours on the bird and a big bonus with the prey. I would try some contrast on the bird, make it 'pop' more.

I like the gangly perch and the bird looks good with the prey item and a nice pose. I think a bit more contrast, and maybe a wee bit more sharpening on the bird would help. TFS

Lots to like here, Jon: nice looking bird with prey, good pose and the perch works well for me. It does look very African (a mopani if I'm not mistaken?). I like the antennas up on the beetle too - as if wondering 'what game is up here'. It will soon find out. Others have commented on tone/contrast and sharpness which I agree are worth revisiting.

I have to agree with all comments, here is I hope a better image, it is not the same one, a couple of frames away but I also think it is considerably sharper. I must have selected the wrong image.
Glenn, yes I am pretty sure a mopani tree.

Hi Jon, a great view of the European Roller, and the colours are spot on. Great that he has caught a Beetle for his meal, and your repost works well. Another clean shot for a Kruger Trip.

Really nice pose and perch here. The beetle is great. I think the repost is better but it is still not right. Bird does not look tack sharp to me and I still find the colors a little thin.

Isaac, it's sharp, maybe you prefer more sharpening. This bird is colourful but not so colourful as the lilac breasted roller.

Hi Jon, RP is definitely an improvement and both techs and colour look great. May be a tad more selective sharpening, but again, this is only 'perceptional' sharpening. Nice control of the darks and shadows, but feel the subject would sit better in frame if flipped L to R.

Hi Jon - The second frame for me with better colors and the prey is a bonus.
