Good look at this bird. There seems to he a halo around the bird, as though it and some surrounding sky were brightened compared to
the rest of the image. I imagine the bird was underexposed a bit and you needed to life the underwing shadows. That underwing does
looks really nice though.
Thanks Guys. Funny I didn't notice the halo, but I certainly see it now. I did lift the shadows, and tone down the highlights, in RAW conversion (Capture NX-D). This would have been applied to the whole image and not just the bird as it would have been had I done it in PS. Maybe some of the effect spilled over onto the sky. It should be easy to correct in PS.
Here's a repost, hopefully without the halo. I guess I should have realized that when I do a global change to shadows and highlights in RAW conversion, it will change the white sky to grey. I don't know if I had ever done that before on a high-key image, but hopefully I learned my lesson. Thanks for pointing out the halo.
Nice one Bill and the repost does it for me. I like the high key look more than the grey sky look in general as well. I've also noticed the halo when processing images in Capture NXD when bringing down highlights, it can be really frustrating when processing images like this against white / grey backgrounds. I have a barred owl image I've never posted because of the halo that I can't seem to 100% get rid of. TFS
