One from the local harbour at the weekend. I decided to photograph gulls, as all ducks had left, due to the harbour being dredged.

I think is super cool William. I love the forward wing position and the head peaking out from behind the front wing. Pretty background as well. I think you could add just a touch more sharpening to the head to make it stand out. Do you ever get the really dark backed, fuscus subspecies in your area. We look for them on the east coast of the US but none has ever been recorded as far as I know.

Thanks for that Issac. We get the Great Black Backed, but mostly out on the small islands. like the Isle of May. Probably the biggest predator on the islands. Forever attacking and killing Puffins, and, all sorts of chicks. At my local harbour, I get the Lesser Black Backed, Herring, Black Headed, and, sometimes Common and Kittiwake. Plenty of Fulmar coming into nest just now.

Very neat. Love the pose on the bird. Good background and the detail looks good.

The peek around the forward facing wings makes this one for me Will. Detail looks good to my eye but others with better monitors may be able to comment more effectively. Great tonal rendering on the bird, soft background and effective composition No nits from me.

Hi Will, excellent IQ, and I like the flight pose. The overall exposure looks good, and I feel the head is fine with regards to sharpening. Killer BG too.
