Default Verreaux's Eagle from the top

I saw a pair of these beauties circling a hill close by and decided to climb it in an effort to get closer, hoping that they would still be around when I reached the top. It was my lucky day as they kept circling for a while, higher up and lower down. That gave me the opportunity to get a shot from the top even though it was on the 'wrong' side from the sun.

Highlights lowered, contrast raised by means of luminosity masks (curves) in PS.

Hi Tobie, we have a great view of the topside, and I like the curled primaries of the near wing. As you stated, the light angle was not ideal, but still a wonderful subject to see and photograph.

Was this from Walter Sisulu ?

Very nice Tobie, and I love that topside view. Its just a pity about the light, the underside looks like its lost a lot of detail. The tree tops in the BG gives a feeling of height. Well worth the climb..

Agree with you on the light. The bird looks a little tight in the frame. Still nice frame with a good background.

Thanks for commenting Stu! Yes, this is from WSBG. A few interesting things are happening this year, in case you're not aware: firstly they started refurbishing their nest(s) earlier than usual (according to the experts) which makes us wonder if we're going to have an early winter this year. Secondly they are preparing their 'new' as well as 'old' nest so we're waiting to see in which one they're eventually going to lay their eggs. Interesting season so far...

This used to be one of my favorite eagles when I was a boy. Love the look of these guys and the white V and tail rump. Nice that you caught him in flight but unfortunately the light angle has created some heavy shadows. Details and exposure look good so keep after them. Well done
